Elizabeth Kubler, George Kubler, Smith, and Reese.
This is one in a series of interviews intended to examine the development of art history as a professional discipline and conducted under the joint auspices of the Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities and the UCLA Oral History Program.
The first tape side is organized chronologically, beginning with Kubler's family background and education and continuing on through her marriage to George Kubler, their move to New Haven, and their travels in Central and South America. The second tape side is organized by subject. Major topics discussed include the Yale art department, Kubler's own involvement with the arts, and the Kubler children.
Vimala Jayanti, editor, edited the interview. She checked the verbatim transcript of the interview against the original tape recordings, edited for punctuation, paragraphing, and spelling, and verified proper names. Words and phrases inserted by the editor have been bracketed.
Kubler reviewed the transcript. She verified proper names and made minor corrections and additions.
Teresa Barnett, senior editor, prepared the table of contents, biographical summary, and interview history. Lisa Magee, editorial assistant, compiled the index.
The original tape recordings of the interview are in the university archives and are available under the regulations governing the use of permanent noncurrent records of the university. Records relating to the interview are located in the office of the UCLA Oral History Program.
